Your Eye Examination – Complete eye examinations are recommended
once every 2 years for adults, once a year
for children and seniors. Your optometrist may examine your eyes
annually or even more frequently
if certain eye conditions are detected. In
general, an eye examination includes a health history, a vision
assessment, an evaluation of
the eyes’ muscle control and co-ordination, a refraction to
determine the prescription needed to optimize
the eyes’ vision,
an inspection of the internal and external
health of the eyes and a glaucoma test. Your
optometrist may also perform other tests,
depending on the individual needs of your eyes.
In any case, an eye examination is a straightforward
and painless experience and
is an important component to maintaining your
overall health.
Children’s Eye Exams –The Canadian Association of Optometrists recommends
that a child should have a complete eye examination before the age of 4 years
old. However, it is never too early for your child’s first eye examination.
Eye exams early in life are crucial in developing healthy eyesight for life.
Senior’s Eye Exams – Since many eye disorders are
age-related, it is recommended that patients over the age of 65
have their eyes examined
on an
annual basis. Charlottetown Vision Care is wheelchair accessible and we would
be happy to help you maintain healthy vision as your eyes age.
Visual Field Testing – The doctors and staff of Charlottetown
Vision Care are trained in using in-office Humphrey visual field
testing. This specialty
testing can assist in early diagnosis and/or monitoring of many disorders
such as glaucoma and other retinal and neurological disorders.
Laser Vision Care, Follow-up - Charlottetown Vision Care is
a TLC (The Laser Centre) approved clinic
for pre-laser surgery care and follow-up. We work closely with
the doctors and staff
to help you make informed decision regarding
laser vision correction. Free information sessions are frequently
held at our office with
TLC in which specialty testing is offered
to help determine if you are a good candidate for the procedure.
